Grassroots poster campaign calling for Van Popta’s resignation from Council

Misty Van Popta’s days of juggling two political hats may be numbered. The Township of Langley Councillor and Langley-Walnut Grove MLA is now facing a fresh challenge as the B.C. Legislature considers a bill that would ban MLAs from simultaneously holding municipal office.

Bill M 202, introduced in the BC Legislative Assembly this session, would force Van Popta to choose between her council seat and her provincial post—something she has so far resisted. With local residents already taking legal action to have her removed from council, the proposed legislation could do what the courts have yet to decide: end her time in one of her two roles.
